Stepping into Gottlieb's was such a cool, transporting experience. I (and other clearly non-Jewish) patrons were in flagrant violation of the dress code not allowing shorts, but no one called us out or made us feel unwelcome. Along the walls are hooks for coats and purses and shelves for hats. Sitting at the edge of the Orthodox Jewish community in Williamsburg, it still draws in a good number of non-Jews. The menu is fairly typical of Ashkenazi Jewish fair, with even some Chinese noodles and egg rolls from what I could gather. A lot of the food looks has been sitting out, but most of it is still tasty after being microwaved. The latkes were more cakey with too much flour and not enough potato in the composition. That was a letdown, but the coleslaw and kugel were solid. My kids also liked the goulash, which was tasty and flavorful, as well as the pastrami sandwich. As expected with kosher food, the prices were fair given the portions. But we came more for the experience than to titillate our taste buds.

Best place, very friendly staff, delicious non Comercial food, the character and atmosphere of a place

Great food , try the pastrami sandwich , it's affordable and tastes good, this is an old school neighborhood spot

Honest, excellent, and real-deal kosher comfort Bubby food. it hit every spot. The matzo ball soup was actually better than Bubby's. Steamed brisket sandwich, fries, beef ghoulas, grilled kishka...OMG. Every single item hit exactly where I was hoping it would! And super fast with real china, glasses, and metal cutlery. My new #1 place anywhere.

Placed an order for my employer while he was in NYC for business. He specifically wanted lunch ordered from Gottlieb's. Joseph Gottlieb was both friendly and very accommodating regarding getting the order delivered into Manhattan. I highly recommend. Thank you! It was much appreciated.
